We Wave Goodbye to January (Already)

Here in New Zealand, it is the last day of January. It's flown, hasn't it? We are 1/12 through the year and I haven't even started school yet. Anyway, I thought I do a quick round up of the first 31st days of 2014.

Guest Post: Ryebrynn Lyla Shveer Crossblade

I'm very happy to introduce another guest to Opal Swirls, this time, Ryebrynn! I did a guest post for her, and she is generously returning this visit!

Today we are siting down for a chat with her main character, Velaine D'Avare, the young Queen of Aelsu. After reading a bit about her, it sounds like her and my main character, Azar, should meet up over some coffee or something.

Oh, He's Cute. You know it.

If you didn't already know, I have a cat. His name is Hunter.

He's pretty much my best friend (Don't worry, I also have a human best friend. Hi HorseFrenzy!)
I talk about him a lot, and his face is all over my blog.

Guest Post: Abrielle Lindsay Seattle

I'm very happy for Abielle (TW) to be with Opal Swirls today! I meet her through Go Teen Writers, and she has kindly agreed for one of her characters, Catrinity, to be interviewed. I will be doing the same for her, over at her blog :) (Here is the link)

A Quick Catch Up

I have been a bit quiet over the last few days, for several reason, which I am not going to bore you with.

First things first - I you didn't already know, I have done an interview with Ryebrynn over at her blog. Click here to find the post.

Second, our Ravens and Writing Desks Newsletter came out today, so if haven't already, sign up! You can do that here

Third, my friend TW will be doing a guest post here in the next few days, and I will be doing one on hers.

I have made it through half a chapter of editing. Hey, I'm getting there (very slowly). Anyway, I found out I passed my exams, so we are going to town for dinner. Also, I need to print out my first draft because I can't work at the computer. What I'm trying to say is that I'm busy.

So instead of doing a blog post, I thought I'd just post a picture. Enjoy.

5 Weeks and 6 Days Since 'The End'

Tomorrow it's 6 weeks since I typed 'the end' on Whispers. Of course, considering that there is half a sequel, it's not really the end, but thats beside the point, isn't it? The point is is that tomorrow I will be allowed to open my draft, and read it. I can begin the edits.

Without Wi-Fi: Part 2

In Without Wi-Fi: Part 1, I talked about how I discovered sleep, because there was nothing else to do at night. My second discovery was that without Wi-Fi I actually did some writing. Without Pinterest breaks. I almost fell over when I found out that it's possible to write without regular Pinterest breaks.

Four Cats Later, Are We Crazy?

We got our new cats today! Their names are Marbles and Pouncer. These are technically nick-names, as they registered with different names. However, I don't want to complicate things, so they will stay Marbles and Pouncer on my blog.

After Hunter got of the shock of two new cats, he showed some interest, but chasing things outside is one of his first loves, so he left not long after, and has been in and out a few times. Blackberry gave a nice show of hissing, and I think we can see who's boss.

In all, I can see much laughs and fun ahead of us, now there is a cat for each member of our family. When Marbles and Pouncer have settled in, and are allowed outside, I can see the need for us to employ someone to open and shut the day all day for Hunter, Marbles, Pouncer and Blackberry.

I shouldn't be let lose on photo editing sites. Just saying.

(I did this one over at PicMonkey)

Post-Holiday Depression

You know it. Your home again now, and at first it was really nice! But by the next day, you have Post-Holiday Depression.

Your chores are waiting for you, normal life resumes, and you realise that you would like to still be on holiday. You're also tired from all the traveling, and to be honest you just want to curl up into a ball and die, but instead, you have to go to school or work.

Sound familiar?

Back From My Happy Holiday

Here's the thing about New Zealand compared to the USA. While you can stand in Texas and not see Kansas, in NZ, from the the North Island, you can see the South Island. From the South Island, you can see the North Island. Considering I have never left New Zealand, my world is not very big.

Off On a Happy Holiday

Right now, I'm putting off what I really should be doing, because we are leaving town tomorrow for a holiday, and I haven't started packing yet. I really should start packing, but blogging is much more fun.

Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know I'm off to a remote farm on the coast line with my sister. Don't fear, we are joining our cousins out there. (Hey, that rhymed!)

I'll be taking my notebooks, and working on just writing what comes to mind. Letting my soul breath, so to speak (if you're into the hippy stuff). Hopefully we will be allowed to just wonder around, do some bush walking and swimming.

So when I come back, be prepared for some weird short stories (seriously, you have no idea what can happen in my mind when I enter my hermit state), and someone who has been starved of Pinterest and Email for a week.

Best not to get in my way when I see the computer. I'll leave you with some music.

Wonderful. Just listen to that voice.

My New WIP

Here is an interactive guide to my new book, Playing with Fire. I spent a few hours on it, with our new program, so I hope you enjoy it! All the pictures are from Pinterest, and belong to the correct owner :)

What Happened to Whispers Next Door?

There's a little secret that only my cat knows. Lean in a little closer.

Short Story - The Road Works

Via Pinterest
This story came to me quite suddenly, and I decided to sit down and write it. It turned out at about 700 words, and I'm pretty happy with it. I would love some feedback!
